Anyone any experience of these. They don't look any quicker than a valver on paper but what about handling. Obviously RWD so a different ball game but parkers reckons they're pretty reliable.

I hate the standard car handling wise and for a turbo they're slooooow but my mate has one running coilovers, wide wheels and 300bhp and its really nice to drive and handles like a go kart.

My mum and dad have a mk2 gt-tbar 2.0 and its pretty nice. Ive been in it a few time and tbh it dont seem any faster than a valver. I raced one a while back and until 4th gear it was neck and neck but then the mr2 started to slowly pull on me (dont know if it was standard though, iim guessing it was). Personally im not keen on the hole 2 seater thing as an everyday thing but if i were to have one it would have to be the turbo as the are shit fast 8) handling is good in them but you just have to be careful in the wet with the rwd an all.

Don't want turbos. Much prefer N/A power, and turbos in a MR car seem a little too edgy. :P

Also looking at E36 328 Coupes.

Erm....

Euww. You typed those dirty 3 characters that spell E36.

I take it the Evo boys poo-poo'd the E46 330i then? 328i is just as boring, but also not as good handling/steering, surely :?

I'm not keen on Mk2 MR2s at all. Maybe a well modded one would change my mind but, otherwise, a big no mainly because of their dodgy handling. Saying that, the revised Mk2 had much improved handling. Plus it would cost a lot to make them reasonable fast in a straight-line.

How about a Mk1 Supercharged beast. Not to everyone's taste to look at, but awesome cars none-the-less.

Not the evo boys Matt no, just too expensive to run (insurance etc) and I was browsing Top Marques last night and a couple of E36s caught my eyes.

the mr2 is a lovely handling car, very well balanced, bear in mind tho it's mid engined, and an absolute ARSEHOLE to work on!!!!!!!!!

MR2's are a weapon in the wet, ok cars tho. My mate has had 3 of them, more of a poseurs car than drivers car imo

g/friends brother has a turbo import, revision 2 so 'only' 220bhp (later had 240 iirc) and its a top car! but it is bit on the posy side, and can be back end happy if u dont know what ur doing! nothing beats a good donut on morrissons carpark tho!lol

its not actually that much quicker than my valver n all tbh, well untill u hit 4th then its off!! he was bit gutted bout me keepin up to start tho, till i reminded him his lardy tub of jap crap weighs in at a little over 1300kg!

I wouldn't touch a cheap Scooby turbo with a 40 foot stick they're bound to have been thrashed to ****, a cheap one will be a WRX which aren't fast and the servicing costs take the piss.

Wot fast motor (williams etc) hasnt been thrashed?? cars like these are designed to be driven hard - to get the best out of a williams you got to drive it hard!!! A cheap uk spec scooby with good service history isnt hard to find and there is a lot of tuning potential and contry to wot some people think on here they are pretty quick - when modded v.fast!!(my 140,000 mile 96' uk spec scooby with approx 250-260 bhp was doing 0-60 in 5.3 secs consitently on my gtech - not to bad!!! ) I have got to agree on servicing - on one service at a specilist i was charged £22 a litre of oil and spark plugs £23 each!was a fooking big bill for a service  also petrol consumption is crap (17mpg  )and i was using BP ultimate it was costing me a fortune !!If you are not doing to many miles then it wouldnt be so bad :D Having said all that a MR2 turbo is a pretty cool car 8) not sure if some of the above (servicing bits etc) applies though. If you are after a quick na car wot about a 306 gti6 or of course a williams(maybe you already have one?) :D 8) !!! Ill shut up now!!

I know a couple of lads with Scoobs one spent a fortune and it wasn't massively quick apart from off the line and the other kept his standard but he spent £950 on an exhaust cos his was blowing.

My mate here at uni has an mr2 n/a. its not the quickest thing in the world, but it looks really nice! ive not had a private race with him, but the other lads that have been in both cars say mine's quicker... im not so sure tho. we'll just wait for the right moment!

i drove an mr2 turbo when i was 17!
it was a standard turbo, running 17s with bald tyres, i drove it on my own in the rain....

u guessed it, i booted it off a roundabout, tail went, nearly caught it, then kinda drifted a 180 across the road, between 2 signs on the grass verge and into the bush

fortunately, i was ok and more imprtantly the car was only covered in blackberry juice!! :D

very quick car tho, lovely to drive at 17!! :D

Used to have one:

loved it, absolutely immaculate, but your right, no quicker than a valver at all, sold my valver for it, then sold it for another valver!!!!!

nice cars, but nothing special!
