Right chaps, im trying to persuade my dad to go for this rather than paying through the nose for a willy lump. What exactly is involved in swapping them over? Is it as easy as it sounds?

Anyone done it themselves? I have access to an engine crane and stand, so will be looking to rebuild the lump when its out with cams + headwork etc

as far as am aware its straight swap for everything head down except you have to change the flywheel over from the valver engine.

gibbo runs this setup neway, best off askin him!

How much are you looking at having to pay for a megane bottom end? I'd like to give this a go at some point down the line.

£3-400 seems to be the going rate.

ive just done this, loads of pics in my thread in media pics.

there are two bottom ends, 710 and 714.

btw its not a straight swap as people believe!

some differences:

different oil pump set up. best to put a new idler pulley where the oil pump pulley used to be on the willy/valver lump. (bottom rear).

714 has a different water pipe set up. you'll be ok if the person u buy the lump off hasn't taken the water pipe off, otherwise you'll need to buy a new one, and its completely different. (only 11quid).

use the megane 710/714 hg.

use the willy/valver flywheel. i didn't actually try to use my megane flywheel tho, don't know who said it won't fit, but might be to do with the engine speed sensor.

other than that, straight forward :)

u can use the different water pipes off the existing 1.8 cooling system.

just literally swap the 1.8 head and ancillaries onto the bare F7R bottom end.

my megane bottomend was easy, nothing needed modding.. i used the cooling system from a valver with oil cooler.

i used a williams headgasket, also used the megane steering pump.... my steering is very easy/light in fact its too light

i meant the metal pipe coming off the water pump. on the 714 it bolts in place. on the 710 its a press fit as per the willy block. but whoever u buy the b/e off shud supply this with it anyway
