I owned a 306 S16 (only 7bhp less power then the 6) before the willy and can honestly say it's not even in the same league performance wise! Anyone ever raced a 6 or Rallye?

I test drove a GTI-6 once, can't say i was over impressed with it personally. Never raced one though

Sorry the S16 was 12bhp less than the 6, but did have a magnex exhaust and K&N filter so probably was about 7bhp less

Mate of mine with a rallye in the office is on that forum all day - just read your posts! lol

I enjoyed the reality check, anyway! Those pics of the clio in the corners are awesome :)

There was a stripped 306 Rallye at york the other day he ran 16.1 to my 15.6 when I raced him...however he did record a 15.2@91mph best on the day which was better than my 15.3@93mph effort... It was wet btw so the times were slow and grip was a problem!

at the end of the day, they are gonna be biased towards 306's and we are towards clio's, however their cars weren't voted no.6 out of the top ten cars of the past 10 years, end of!!!

Only just checked out the link...PMSL! Those guys seem to think the 306 will rape the williams?? Well there must be a fair few valver willy replicas about!

Funnily enough the 2 cars I was considering were the 306gti and Williams before I purchased the Williams .

The 306 was pretty good , but just seemed a bit too grown up for me , whereas the Williams just begged to be abused constantly and the further you pushed the car , the more together it felt.

One of the main reasons that I dont really like Imprezas (even though I sell a few) that much is the fact it goes quickly with no effort and whilst handling and gripping very well the whole car is not "urgent" enough for me.

FWIW my favourite handling fwd car is a 205gti . If the rest of the car wasnt such a useless piece of shit I would be rallying one of them instead.

The 205 over the Integra???

Mark_Ritchspeed
07-04-2005, 15:29
Yep. IMO its got the best steering feel of not only any fwd car I've driven , but over almost any car I've ever driven.

Ultimately an ITR would destroy a standard 205 on track , but for me the straight line speed is not massively important.

Having said that the 306gti-6 felt sluggish compared to a Willy.

What about an MI16 205 then Mark?

Mark_Ritchspeed
07-04-2005, 15:52
The problems with Pug 205's for me is that they are just so fragile and cant take anywhere near the abuse that the Willy puts up with . MI16 engined 205's are seriously quick though.

Has anybody ever been lucky enough to have a drive of a 205 T16 - the ultimate!! 0-60 in 3.1 secs! Rare as rockin horse sh*te, saw a left hand drive one for sale in Classic Cars a few years back for £30,000

MikeTCB

A 205 T16 went on ebay a couple of months ago for £21k - it looked amazing in the pics but apparently didn't get sold cos it was in pieces when the guy went round to collect it!

just read through the pages of that thread on gti6 forum, to be fair most of them are realistic when they say there's prolly not much difference between the two, and as with all French cars they seem to vary on power, so you may find one kicking the others arse from time to time. If people base their experiences against one driver and one car that's when they should prepare for a shock tho. lol

I think a nice friendly comparison is in order, my m8 who works at the same place has a Rallye and i'd love a go against it. To be perfectly honest I expect to hammer his car tho, but mine is mildly tuned.

YAY 205 GTI's still the hot hatch king IMO

why didn't you get one then, there not exactly expensive now. I'd have one, but it would need a shit load more power... like an Mi16 engine for a start, then cams etc...

well i had a 205 gti as you know that cost me thousands in repairs, i also had an mi16 engine ready to go in as you know.

And TBH, if i could turn the clock back, i would never have sold it, i should have paid for the repairs, got the bodywork sorted and rebuilt the MI16 ready for conversion, as was the original plan.

Not that im cussing my valver, i do like it a lot. But it just aint the same as that laser green 205 gti.

For all those that never saw it:

Yeah i agree i think 3 cars share the hot hatch crown.

Golf gti as it was the original and a mint one is quality
205 GTi as the look as good as they go. On my list to own
Williams as it was a rally legend and is a car that looks just as good next to an expensive car

Daz

I looked at GTi-6's briefly..
If they didn't look like a 1.4 with alloys, I'd have been more tempted..

Air Con, Leather/Alacantra Seats etc.. not bad really..

But hey, they ain't a Williams, are they..
Why have a 306 when you can have the 6th best car of the last decade?

No but I have driven the 405 T16 this engine is supurb 220bhp linked to a 4 x 4 transmission, spec 0-62 7.1 and top speed 153 however these figures are conservative! stick this lot in a 205 and power to weight ratio is going to make for seriously quick  You can buy here for 5-6K

As for Pug v Reno issue, both companies have produced excellent " Hot Hatches " IMOH the Williams was and still is the one to own, it was intended to be exclusive and just stands out from the crowd. Handling nothing can touch it, I have owned and driven 205 1.9 nice car and now if you can find a good one thats not been driven by a CHAV they are dirt cheap. I am surprised and dissapointed to hear so many " enthusiasts " taking cheap shots and surprised they are not just ignored :?: Are we not all going to the FCS to see the best that France has to offer and not just to pay homage to the Williams and Clio Mk 1

I drove the 306 rallye (lighter than the gti-6) before I bought the Williams..

It was a nice car, 6 gears come in handy, but it just didnt have that extra bit of something the Williams had.

Amusing thread tho :)

well, dont know if i have been banned from there, although I didn't actually do or say anything to offend them... I mean if I wanted to be offensive I would have said "I am Jesus, worship me you peasants" or "it's a know fact that christians love it up the bottom"

Think everyone is getting a bit hung up on top speeds now... :? Just to add fuel to the fire could someone who's already registered post this up for me......

Lol , you lot still baiting the 306 guys?

FWIW my old Willy3 saw a gps verified 142mph whilst bouncing off the limiter at approx 7500rpm. The speedo was reading just under 150mph. To be fair it was pretty quick to 130mph , but you can just feel the brick like aerodynamics slowing it down and it took a while to get from 130 to just over 140. Although I never had it on the dyno I am fairly confident that engine was developing @ 170bhp with minor mods.

IMO it really would take a serious amount of horsepwer to get to 160mph in a Clio even with the right gearing . Our Integra Type R (197bhp JDM spec) has seen 145mph on the gps and our old WRX lightweight (@250bhp JDM spec) saw 148mph on the gps. Both cars were also a fair bit faster once over 110mph , but neither had the grunt to bounce off the limiter in 5th even with better aerodynamics (especially Integra).

umm, integra's, nice cars nearly bought one instead of my williams.

Think I might of even checked out your website mark when i was looking.

I really have been so busy , I havent had a chance to update the website the last few weeks. We seem to be taking more special order cars recently than stocking cars ourselves.

Which is ****ing great because it means we dont even have to try and sell anything. The cars come in , we do all the necessary work for MOT/SVA , service, valet, alarm and away they go. :D

he argument has moved on to rallying

Thing is like I said on their forum, the 306s are quick, a couple of them I passed and a couple passed me at Oulton, which I didn't think would happen, too many variables thrown in to measure performance.

I have driven both and had a bit of action with my mate in his 306 Rallye.
To be honest, there ain't much between them....What i noticed from driving the Rallye is that it seemed to have the edge on the straights, but on corners and RA's my Williams felt that bit more superior and seemed to corner better at slighty higher speeds. The Rallye seemed to pull at higher revs whilst my Williams remained constant throughout the rev counter.
The one thing i did love about the Rallye was it;s gearbox, it's sweet as a nut, but overall it did not hold that special thing that my Williams has whilst driving. 8)

200 sx is a nice car, and im sure just as fast as a Williams on a b / a road blast.

But it sint as special. End of. Neither is the 306.

If i wanted a fast car i would have bought a scooby and tuned it. I wanted a rare special car.
