View Full Version : Small Update

Was a dry day yesterday so decided to colour code some bits and give it a good wash, wax, tyre clean and dressing.

So far ive coded the bump strips, scuttle panel and the engine mount cover. Still to do are the spoiler, door handles, boot lock and Mirror surrounds.

Here are some pics

how did u do the colour coding mate? i ruffed up the scuttle/mirrors/bump strips/door handles with wet n dry then 2 layers of primer 3 of paint n 3 of laquer and the buggers have started flaking already!

27-04-2006, 14:21
Wet and dry to key the surface
Dried and primed with 2 coats
2 Coats of Paint
2 Coats of Laquer

Mine had never been treated with any colouring before the painting, if they have had back to black etc.. on them then the grease will make the paint flake off.

Suspension has just arrived...

As it was a nice day i thought i might aswell get it lowered. So started and removed the front wheels...

Old Standard Struts/Springs

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010001.JPG

Got the bolts undone, and undid the spring and removed the top mount with the spring compressors

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010002.JPG

New 35mm 16v Springs which should lower my car 55mm :)

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010003.JPG

All fitted back up tightly and in place, struts are Gaz Adjustable ones.

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010005.JPG

Same thing on the passenger side, the old stuff removed and new stuff on, its a good job the new stuff arrived as when i was compressing the spring the old one snapped

Also the passenger side was more of a pain, the strut sat a bit lower than the joint which meant a lot of swearing but eventually sorted.

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010007.JPG

Start the rear, thought i can get the shocks on and possibly get the torsion bar done.

Old stuff, with really tight bolts which took ages to remove but minutes to refit.

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010009.JPG

New stuff (pics blurry as it was dusk and i thought it would be ok but not enough light)

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010011.JPG

Adjustable screws, should be able to adjust the damping without even removing the road wheels

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010012.JPG

My efforts are rewarded for the current lowness at the front...

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/01010016.JPG

Looks slightly high as the rear is on Axle stands and it has to settle down...

More to follow 2morro as ive still got to remove the torsion bar and lower that. I have to remove the skirts on my RSi as they get in the way :(

nice days work mate, can't wait to see it finished 8)

28-04-2006, 16:22
Right then, finished it today after a lot of trouble.

Better picture of the rear shocks

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/Fin/01010018.JPG

Torsion bar removed

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/Fin/01010020.JPG

First off i lowered it 60mm roughly which i thought would be fine however... No, it scrubbed like a cunt.

http://www.zen32679.zen.co.uk/Clio/Lowering/Fin/01010024.JPG

So because of this i had to raise it slightly, now lowered about 40mm ish...
Whilst doing this another present arrived, my french plates which were put on quick sharp!

Im really happy with the results, the back could go a litle lower but for now its fine. Its currently set on the Hardest setting which so far seems softer than my Nova when that was lowered.

:D

Lookin' good mate. Looks like my valver! Since it's an RSI, ever thought of dropping in a Volvo turbo engine? I checked one out recently, which unfortunately had a boost problem. It's was pretty rapid - until it started kangarooing!

Lightly tuned would defo give your car some meat to go with that garnish! :)

Mater had one, and tbh over teh std RSi, drag race off the lights, stripped RSi one up, so weight was same pretty much he was only about half a car length ahead at end of 2nd and about 2 car lengths ahead at end of 3rd

30-04-2006, 14:43
small amounts, i took the rear shit guards off as it scrubbed on them.

Fitted my new Green Hoses today, next thing on the list is a strut brace which fits, rocker cover and possibly inlet manifold polishing, would like some chrome top mounts but there pricey, same as a header tank.

But for now it will be fine.
