When should petrol warning light come on?

I got the car in december, but never have let it get near the red, have always filled it up.

But i thought id wait this time. When should it come on? I fear the bulb might have blown.

When the guage is at the bottom + 2 miles or something.. I think mine is.

If i go round a corner it will go to the last bar but the light still wont illuminate.

You reckon im good for a few more miles yet?

just go for a drive untill the needle gets to the last bar, and then drive locally or near a petrol station, youll get your answer wether it be run outta fuel or the light illuminates :wink:

Not a good idea to go really really low as it sucks up all teh shit from teh bottem of the tank and clogs up the filter

thats why u renew your fuel filter every so often :D plus they're shouldn't really be any shit in your tank as the fuel is refined and the tank is plastic.

theres 5 litres in the reserve tank which is being pumped to the main tank when the light starts to flicker, after that you have about 30 miles depending on driving style

I've had lots of experience of this being a skint student.

My light comes on and the needle goes past the bottom bar. The most miles i've managed with the light on is 53, the least is 27.

keep it above 1/4 then you dont need to worry about it, as mentioned above its not really a good idea to run it so low

Mine comes on when its fully down at the bottom line...

Also incase ya didnt know there is an aux. fuel tank, once the primary tank starts to fall low it prime's a secondary pump in the aux. tank to feed the primary... it holds about 10litres too! :shock:

I meant the light comes on once the guage hits the bottom then a couple of miles.

36 miles with the light on solid, is when my Williams 3 stopped. ;)

must be a huge reserve tank as the vid of martin doing 150mph in his old williams was filmed with him on the reserve tank. wouldnt worry too much

Well its well and truely below the last line, to the point where the need practically doesnt move when u turn the ignition on.

Guess the bulb is blown, doh :x

Think its supposed to come on when ur on ur last gallon, but saying that i just listen for the reserve fuel pump moaning away then i think... hmmm mebbe i better fill up!

No it doesnt, the temp light comes on though. (as you can see in the picture i posted in the first post)

Anyway im guna goto town and get some torx tommorow, then swap the petrol bulb with a bulb that i know works.

Nope, the perol light doesn't come on on mine when you turn on the ignition. I used to think the petrol light was blown on my 1.4 for ages but just let it get low enough once and it came on.

OK mystery over, the bulb holder for the petrol light was loose on the back of the dials, swapped it for another, and what do ya know, it comes on now.

Well it flickers on and off anyway, i guess that means main tank isnt quite empty (i put a bit in from the jerry can this morning).
