Heard rumour about running a non power assist rack on the Willey...

Couple of questions:

What Rack do you use?
What other mod's are required (apart from the obveious removal of the pump + plumbing) or does it just drop in?
Is it the same ratio?

Any help would be top, coz either my rack and/or pump are foooked and makin embarrasing noises!

Cheers lad's, Jonny

renault but you wont want to know how much they are

best bet is to go to your local scrappies sniff out a non pas r5 1.7 gtx, volvo 1.7 440/460/480 basicaly anything with an f block engine and no pas and take the required brackets off them.

I'm getting desperate, Renault tell me the bracket above is from A R21 not the 5. Does this sound about right, the F3N engine???

Good luck finding a 1.7 in a scrappy thesedays cos i've only ever seen one.

Mount wise just go in with the part numbers...they're listed all over the forums - you only need the two main mounts and the funny long thin bolt thing winston pictured from renault. Under 70quid should see it if you're getting stuck.

The standard 1.7 belt you can get from any factors, altho its 4 rib. Not an issue though.

why do people use this conversion?

More power...removing PAS means the engine has less strain on it (as its not having to turn a pump as well)...and a more responsive engine.

Downside is parking can be a little bit harder

There are loads of these parts available. When i was doing mine there were several suitable donor cars in just 1 random yard.

The belt is a 6pk 803. Get one from any parts supplier e.g partco.

why do people use this conversion?

Yes for more power, but also as my pump is on its way out, and its always annoyed me, it wining all the time. I'm hoping it will require less maintenance and possibly add more feel! We will see!

Why can the 16v bracket not be used, the top one that holds it to the block?
I understand why it needs the tensioner bit, but how does the other bit differ?
