Right. My gearbox seems to have finaly give up after whining for a while, still works but is pissing oil everywhere and doesnt sound healthy at all. What are the cheapest options to get it sorted. Could probably take the box off myself but would it be better to buy a recon or get mine rebuilt/reconditioned? Need to try and get this done as cheap as possible.

Cheers!

If you can be bothered with the hassle its cheaper to keep buying 2nd hand boxes at £50 a time and sticking them in than getting one reconned.

My recon didn't last as long as the £20 130000 mile box I stuck in after it.

Mine is on a recon box and it whines a fair bit in 1st but seems fine in the other gears.... goddamn weak valver boxes

My Willy box has been rebuilt twice now. The second time I took it back the garage informed me that they only changed the blown bearing, so they changed all the bearings and seals for free.

Should only reeally be costing you £200 for a garage to strip your gearbox change ALL bearings and put it back together again.

Do all the monkey work yourself, i.e. just take the gearbox to them.

lol if i had mine recconed i think they will be doing more than just replacing seals and bearings....more like replacing every cog in the flipping thing :P

You reckon i could get hold of used a williams box for around £50? Would have thought theyd be hard to get hold of? If so i'll probably do that. I still have all gears on mine but the noise is so bad its undriveable, especially since i took it out yesterday and it pissed out all the oil, think something pretty bad happend to it. It also crunches in first unless the cars absolutely not moving, its done that since i was reversing and the wheels locked up...think it may have slipped into first.

no mate you may get a valver box for £50 used but not a williams box, i still say get yours re-conned and just dont hammer the box until its work in a little

Yeah didnt think i'd get a willy box for £50. Does anyone know any good place in Staffordshire that could recondition mine for a good price?
