Am looking to get a low-budget DV camera that runs on flash memory. Will be using for in-car footage, so I need one that doesn't smear when the action gets too quick. Any recommendation?

I have a Sony one that uses DV.... HD or flash ones are cack.

Mine cos a shade under £300 and its great, the footage is being used by the BBC to make a DVD at the moment.

Just played with the the video mode on my Olympus C-5050Z digital camera. Seems quite decent capture even when I shake it. And with 2GB card inside, it says it will run for 100mins. Think I will give that a try first. Just have to fabricate some sort of scaffold to hold the camera inside the car.

If it don't work out, I'll probably get something like this:

I can get them for something like 70-80 pounds. They are OK for normal home videos, just not sure how they handle fast movement shots.

The main problem you'll get from using a stills camera in video mode is the slow shutter speed, you may only get a few frames per second because of it, hence blurring.

Give it a try and see what happens, some of the higher end ones are pretty damn good.

ITs dead easy to make a mount for the camera too ;)

Thanks Lunner. Can it do better than 15fps? It's a bit jerky at 15 fps.

Can't complain about the passable quality for the price. Like the AA batteries instead of Li-ion, and looks small enough to masking-tape it to almost any part of the car. Best part is with international shipping, it's still going to be about 35 pounds. Still looking around but this one is definitely on the radar.

And made a short little test clip with it. It has been slowed down to promote safe driving :)

Can you please host it somewhere else. I can't see putfiles as they ban IPs from Singapore. Something to do with us hanging drug dealers.
