I've finally got round to rebuilding my engine, here are some pics with comments of various stages.

This is still work in progress, so i'll keep adding to this as I progress, enjoy...

Parked up in the garage, probably the last time it'll be in one piece

714 megane block, front of, cheers winston... I will get this cleaned up before it goes in :)

http://www.reacthosting.com/summeh/willy/rebuild/714front.JPG

rear of the new block, note that the 714 block doesn't have the chunky vertical strengthening viens that the willy block has, but it does have more viens between the bolt holes. Also the oil pump is driven off the crank on this, so the oil pump pulley is just now an idler pulley.

Engine bay stripped mostly...

engine crane in place... I had a very nasty accident with this crane later on involving my fingers being crushed !

I've just spent this evening grinding all the rust in the engine bay away. Kurust has been applied now aswell. Went to halfrauds and got a can of 449, this will be applied tomorrow night if I get time.

I've also been cleaning up engine parts, but no pics yet sorry. Plan to get the engine back in at the weekend, will post more pics as I progress!

Its been off the road 5 months, so can't wait to get her back!

cheers guys, yeah the garage is fantastic, plenty of room at the front with a nice big workbench, makes all the difference. only problem at the moment is the floor needs redoing as at the moment its uneven, and shit loads of dust gets everywhere.

didnt do much tonight as i was pretty knackered when I got in from work.

I did manage to spray up the engine bay where i'd taken it back to bare metal and done the kurust treatment yesturday.

Must say im quite pleased with the outcome, the colour match isn't great but thats to be expected from a spray can, but better than rusty patches. I almost wanted to spray the entire engine bay, hehe.

http://www.reacthosting.com/summeh/willy/rebuild/sprayed2.JPG

This is behind the bumper, where water seems to sit, can be seen in other pictures. Anyway this is just the paint coat, because its hidden and normally sits in water im going to underseal this tomorrow.

I intend to get a plate welded in here in the future.

These are the bonnet brackets sprayed up...

http://www.reacthosting.com/summeh/willy/rebuild/brackets.JPG

This is the old water pump, in pretty bad condition after 80k!

progress has been slow with this as i've been busy with work and the house etc...

started to build up the new engine last night, only to be put back by 2 water pump bolts that decided to sheer! torque wrench was only set to 20nm aswell :? so spent a while drilling those out.

will get some pics up tonight, new engine is looking good. should have it ready to drop in by end of tonight.

Northy,

You must come up with a new set of speedlines on our avatars. For people who have done this level of surgery to a clio mk1 and successfully put it back together.

Sort of like a hero badge of honour. There must be at least 10 over guys who deserve the honour. :)

Come on. Do it, man!

sorry for being dim and maybe a little blonde, but what do the current little speedlines mean?

Justin..
13-04-2006, 17:48
1 speedline = paid member

2 speedlines = area rep

3 speedlines = a moderator

4 speedlines = ??? i dont know

5 speedlines = site owner/creator/Admin

IIRC :D

this is what happens when sand gets in your engine and plays with the bores...

this is the old engine, u can clearly see the shit loads of vertical scratches caused by the sand grit.
