Is it easy (for an incompetant DIY mechaninc!)? Where is it?

First get ur ISCV from ur car - this is located mounted to the Inlet Manifold [coiled looking thing on the very front of ur engine about a foot long] disconnect the plug from the top of the ISCV and the two pipes leading 1 from your air filter and other leading to the inlet

Then get ur carb cleaner [go into any car part store and ask for some carb cleaner and they will give u exactly what u need] and spray this into the cylinder part of the ISCV [be warned tho this will spray out loads of black shit and it smells awful so open a window and dont aim it at your moms new curtains]

get a cottonbud [any brand doesnt matter, i used Johnson n Johnson for mine tho :wink:]

And clean all inside the ISCV cylinder:

Inside is ur control valve, this moves round, use your cotton bud to move this and spray carb cleaner to clean this

Thats it! Your idle control valve will be clean, just keep repeating this process until the black stuff stops coming out the other end

ive just bought a (in my opinion nice) williams 3 today!! yay!! anyways its a low mileage 1 67k and there's a couple of probs with it. thought you guys could help me. First 1 is tick over, its ticking over around 1.6-2k (engine revving itself slightly) is this the ISC valve that your talking about. secondly theres a horrible noise coming from the wheel only happens in straight line and when turning right but is ok when you turn left. im sure its the wheel bearing ( its got 17's but came with originals so im putting them back on). PS they awesome cars to drive
money well spent!

if it is noisy when straight and quiter when cornering it is ur wheel bearings, prolly caused from the huge wheels, sort the wheel bearing oot and put the orginal wheels back on and it will be fine

ur idle prob sounds like The vacuum tube from the drivers side of the inlet manifold has snapped off, causing an airleak out of the tube...few bhp loss iirc.

Solution.
screw a screw in to the rigid plastic tubing. and superglue the end.

i class myself as an intermediate mechanic (built a vauxhall nova from scratch never again will i buy vauxhall)!!! i know this is going to be a very enjoyeable car and with help like this it puts a smile on my face.

can also be the opposite as it was with mine, depending in which way i turned.

what ever way is louder, the opposite side is knackared iirc

opposite usually means the cv joint?
was with mine

quiet on straights - noisy on turns = cv
vise versa - wheel bearings

you cant do this mate, that tube is going to the MAP sensor, if you block it up then it wont be getting any readings

take the top of the dash off and add an extra earth to the speedo cable, this is a common problem for high idle on these cars

im just doing this at the min, and im getting ready to put it back on the car but i was wondering which way the arrows go? i do know which way it came off.....however i just wanted to make sure it was on the right way in the 1st place :D

do the arrows go towards the inlet manifold, or towards the airbox?

(if you look at willy-jr's 2nd pic you can see the arrow on there)

He means the tubing that goes to the charcoal canister!!
it'll more than likely be the iscv.

nice one brun, that’s the way it came off/went back on.

only problem is i've done the above and its created more of a problem than it solved. i've put it all back together and now it idles shockingly. (bouncing all over the place and staling when slightly revved.)

is the bit in the middle of the ISCV meant to move both ways freely, or just one way freely or is it meant to be stiff?

hmmm.....did it move in both directions or just one way?

mine was really realy stiff when i was trying to move it with a cotton bud.

maybe get it back off and give it a squirt with WD40?

well i cleaned mine with brake and clutch cleaner, washed that through, dried it out with a hairdryer and then sprayed some ZX1 lube through (like WD40/GT85)
